Amazon Studios will release JOLT on Prime Video July 23rd, 2021

Lindy is a beautiful, sardonically-funny woman with a painful secret: Due to a lifelong, rare neurological disorder, she experiences sporadic rage-filled, murderous impulses that can only be stopped when she shocks herself with a special electrode device. Unable to find love and connection in a world that fears her bizarre condition, she finally trusts a man long enough to fall in love, only to find him murdered the next day. Heartbroken and enraged, she embarks on a revenge-filled mission to find his killer, while also being pursued by the police as the crime’s prime suspect.
Commentary: JOLT is a unique revenge flick that only takes itself serious enough to get the story told. Lindy (Kate Beckinsale) is a formidable character who would do well with her own series. Not quite a superhero but able to kick butt with the best of them. Her intriguing backstory warrants more screen time.

PROS: Beckinsale embraces her character even in her most eye rolling of moments and gives us wall to wall entertainment. Her supporting cast of Stanley Tucci and Bobby Cannavale add familiar faces as her therapist (Tucci), and a good hearted detective (Cannavale). It is a revenge film but if we are being honest, Lindy seems to like the opportunity to inflict pain regardless of what she says.
The story is solid and moves at a decent pace. You want to find out the truth as much as the characters do. Lindy is a likable person and you feel bad for her situation. It is hard losing a loved one and the big screen is a good way to release those emotions.
CONS: Ugh. The ending! The final climax and answers to the questions was confusing and out of sync with the rest of the story. I literally said out loud, “are you serious?!” I tried not to let the ending ruin the journey and after a few breaths I was ok with it. I didn’t need a nice bow but what I did get made zero sense.
JOLT is rated R for strong violence, sexual content, and language throughout. There is a lot of adult humor in the witty dialogue and it balances the action. Prime Members get a treat with this one, and it is worth the click for sure.
