The film takes a while to get its footing, and you may feel as if you have stumbled upon The Hallmark Channel and Lifetime Movie networks love child. As the name alludes to it does have twice the heart of most films in the way it wants to please an audience. Give it some time and the characters and story will grow on you. The payoff is certainly worth the journey as the last 20 minutes of the film are an emotional gut punch… in a good way. (continued below)

SYNOPSIS: For two couples the future unfolds in different decades and different places, but a hidden connection will bring them together in a way no one could have predicted. Based on an inspirational true story, 2 Hearts is a romantic journey that celebrates life, love and generosity of spirit, and challenges audiences to believe miracles are possible. Charismatic young Australian actor Jacob Elordi (“Euphoria,” “The Kissing Booth”) plays
Chris, a college freshman whose love for a spirited classmate played by Tiera Skovbye (“Riverdale,” “Once Upon a Time”) helps him find the purpose he has been searching for. In another place and time, Adan Canto (“Designated Survivor,” “Narcos”) plays Cuban exile Jorge, who falls for well-traveled flight attendant Leslie, played by Radha Mitchell (“Man on Fire,” “The Shack”). Though they were never meant to meet, fate has something entirely unexpected in store for both couples that dramatically changes the course of their lives. – 2 HEARTS ONLY IN THEATRES FRIDAY, OCTOBER 16!

(Continued) You can google the characters if you want to know how it all pans out. I would suggest watching the film first – if you opt to – then doing the follow up research afterwards. For those of you who do not like surprises I understand that isn’t possible and you already have done your research. Either way it is an emotional story and though it does not always translate artistically to the screen fans of romantic dramas will find it enjoyable.

Both couples in the film have their own unique and engaging journey of love. As standalone stories they each offer humor, romance, and passion. If you are familiar with the TV channels mentioned above you are used to this brand of story telling. At times it feels fake and even manipulative. The characters grow on you though. Chris (Jacob Elordi) especially felt over the top and unrealistic. But Elordi was able to become instantly endearing much like a friend who you love but gets on your nerves at the same time. The story line of Chris and Samantha (Tiera Skovbye) was far more entertaining. Granted Jorge (Adan Canto) is a huge reason for the making of the film as his journey is paramount. I just felt that those elements – in comparison to Chris’ – brought the tone and excitement down a notch.

2 Hearts is rated Pg-13 for language and thematic elements. I would say you are safe with 16 and over family members. There is a lot of dialogue about faith and hope which – though mixed with sad moments – will encourage and uplift even as they break your heart. I give it a C for coma. Too harsh? a C for charity? Better? Ok. I think it is a decent renter and for on-demand or DVD. Worth the ticket price in the age of Covid? Not so much.
