20th Century Studios’ Ella McCay arrives on Digital including Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home on Tuesday, January 27. It will then stream exclusively on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ for bundle subscribers in the U.S., and on Disney+ internationally starting February 5, with a Blu-ray release to follow on March 3.

Written and directed by Academy Award winner James L. Brooks in his first film in over a decade, this gratifying story takes viewers on a journey of human drama with unexpected comedic turns, ultimately arriving at a heartwarming reminder that “there is no opposite word for trauma, but hope comes close.”
Review snippet: A lot happens with all of these characters which leaves very little time for depth and caring. If the story had stayed in its lane and focused on Ella and her political rise it would have been stronger. Throwing in other character arcs that neither add to her journey or trajectory makes the plot boggy and hard to buckle down with.
The acting is not surprising as we get wonderful performances from the entire cast. Curtis is wonderful in these supporting roles where she isn’t carrying the plot but there to give us dynamic, scene stealing moments. All of us had or wanted to have an aunt like Helen. Harrelson too doesn’t give us anything we haven’t seen from him before, but it is still fun to watch and helps us side with Ella. – READ MY FULL THEATRICAL REVIEW
With all of its issues it is still worth watching, and now that you can do it from home? Even better.
